Privacy & cookies
What data we keep, who sees it, and how to change your choices.
WonderCalendar is an independent project: a calendar of upcoming movies, TV series and anime. This page explains, in plain words, what data the site really handles, who gets to see it and how to change that. It is written by looking at how the site works, not copied from a template: if the site changes, this page changes first.
The data controller is the person who runs releasedatecalendar.com. For any request about your data, write to privacy@releasedatecalendar.com.
1What we collect
Nothing that identifies you as a person. There are no accounts, no sign-up and no forms: we never ask for your name, email, phone number, address or payment details, and the site does not sell anything.
What exists, and where:
- On your device: your preferences (categories, calendar or timeline view, day/night mode, trailer autoplay), the titles you saved with the heart, your choice about playing trailers (only if you tick “remember my choice”) and a random identifier that your browser makes up the first time you use the site. They live in your browser's local storage. Your preferences and your trailer choice never leave your device and we cannot read them. Clear your browser data and all of this is gone.
- On the server, when you save a title: the site counts the save as a “like”, so it can tell which upcoming titles are popular. For each like the database keeps the id of the title, the date and time, and a scrambled (hashed) version of your random identifier, never the identifier itself. The identifier is not linked to your name, email or IP address, and the database does not store your IP address. It is only there so that one device counts once per title.
- On the server: the technical logs of the hosting service (see “Who else touches it”): your IP address, the page requested, the date and the type of browser. Nobody looks at them one by one; they exist to run and protect the site.
What you type in the search box is handled inside your browser. It is not sent to us or saved.
What we never do: we do not build a profile of you, we do not follow you from site to site and we do not sell or hand your data over to anyone.
2Why we use it
- To give you what you ask for: remembering your view and theme, keeping your saved titles, alerting you when a saved title is close to release.
- To show what is popular: the likes are added up per title. A title that many people saved, compared with the other upcoming ones, gets a small flame and moves to the top of its day. We only use the totals, not what one device liked.
- To pay for the site: advertising from Google AdSense (see “Who else touches it”).
- To keep the site running: server logs help us see what breaks and block abuse.
3What other people see
Nothing about you. There are no profiles and no public lists. Other visitors only see a small flame on the titles that many people saved; they never see who saved what, and your list of saved titles and your preferences stay on your device.
4Who else touches it
- Netlify: hosts the site and delivers the pages. It receives the technical data of every request (IP address, page, browser) and keeps its server logs. Netlify is a US company, so this data can be processed outside the European Economic Area, under its own safeguards.
- Neon: hosts the database where the likes are kept (title id, date and time, scrambled identifier). Neon is a US company and the database runs on servers in the United States (Ohio), so this data is processed outside the European Economic Area, under Neon's own safeguards.
- TMDB and AniList: the release data comes from them, but our servers fetch it, so your browser does not talk to them for that. The only exception is the poster images, which your browser loads directly from their image servers: like any image loaded from another site, this shows them your IP address.
- YouTube (Google): only if you press “Play trailer”. Until then nothing from YouTube is loaded. If you play it, the video comes through YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com) and Google receives your IP address and the usual data of a video request. You can tick “remember my choice” or decline.
- Google AdSense: shows the advertising. When a page with ads loads, Google receives technical data from your browser (at least your IP address and browser details) and can set or read cookies and similar identifiers, for example to choose, measure and limit the ads. If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, Google's consent message asks you first and your choice is respected. Google is a US company. How Google uses information from sites that use its services; Google's ad settings.
- Fonts: they are served by this site itself, so no request goes to Google or any font service.
The release data sources are sources, not destinations: nothing about you is sent to them. This product uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB.
5For how long
- On your device: until you clear it. Your trailer choice, if you saved it, is asked again after 6 months.
- Likes on the server: until you remove the title from Your Wonder List (the like is then deleted the next time the site is open and online), and in any case they are deleted automatically after about 13 months. Older likes count less and less towards popularity. There is an option, off by default (the site asks you the first time a saved title comes out), that takes a title out of your list the day after it comes out: in that case the like stays on the server and keeps counting for the title until it is deleted after about 13 months. If you want it deleted sooner, write to us.
- Advertising cookies: set by Google, for the period Google decides (see the link above).
- Server logs: for the limited period the hosting service keeps them, then they are overwritten.
6Your rights
The European regulation (GDPR) gives you the right to know what data we have, correct it, delete it, take it with you, restrict its use, object to its processing and withdraw your consent at any time (what happened before stays valid). On WonderCalendar the most important ones are in your hands already:
- Change your trailer choice: clear the site's data in your browser, or simply wait: a saved choice is asked again after 6 months.
- Change your advertising choice: use the choices in Google's consent message (shown in the EEA and the UK), or turn personalised ads off in Google's ad settings.
- Delete what the site stores on your device: remove titles from Your Wonder List (this also deletes their likes on the server, except for titles the site already removed by itself after their release, see below), or clear the site's data in your browser. If you clear the browser data without removing the titles first, the identifier is gone from your device and the likes it made stay in the database in anonymous form, because we can no longer tell which ones were yours; they are deleted automatically after about 13 months.
- Anything else: write to privacy@releasedatecalendar.com. Since we keep no account data, we may only be able to tell you what the logs hold, if you give us your IP address and the time of your visit, and what the likes hold, if you send us your random identifier (you can find it in your browser's local storage, under the name “comingsoon:likes:v1”).
If you think something is wrong, you can contact your data protection authority. Write to us first: it is usually faster.
Age: the site is not aimed at children under 14 and does not knowingly collect their data.
7Cookies and ads
The site itself sets no cookies and loads no analytics or tracking scripts of its own. The advertising is provided by Google AdSense, which can use cookies and similar technologies. If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, a message from Google lets you accept, refuse or manage your choices before personalised advertising is used; Google keeps that choice. This message does not appear on this page.
The other third-party service that can set its own cookies is YouTube, and only if you press “Play trailer”: see “Who else touches it”. If you tick “remember my choice” for trailers, the site keeps that on your device and asks again after 6 months.
